About this course

Enjoy a talk about the history of topiary and a practical demonstration on cutting techniques, followed by a hands-on workshop to create your own topiary to take away.

Gain inspiration for topiary in garden settings, from embryo plans to finished topiary and take home tips on care and maintenance. The tutor will demonstrate cutting techniques and explain about the short cuts to creating strong shapes. Followed by a hands-on workshop to create your own topiary to take away.

Timetable for one day courses

Students should arrive by 9am for registration.

Classes are from 9.15 – 5pm

Lunch is included.

  • A plant for you to create your topiary specimen is included.

What students need to bring

  • A notebook and pens/pencils
  • A pair of secateurs and gloves
  • Sturdy covered boots/shoes are essential in the studio; also bring outdoor clothing for wet/sunny weather.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Please note: Please arrive for registration and coffee at the College (the main house) by 9am. The group will make a short walk through the walled garden to the Auditorium, where the course is based at 9.05am. The Auditorium can also be accessed by vehicle using the garden entrance, after registration. You will return to the main house for lunch, while morning coffee and afternoon tea will be served near the Auditorium.
